A stint in the notoriously safety conscious mining industry highlighted a need for dairy farmer Martin Knowles to improve his operation’s safety policies.
This insight and a need to meet the ever-tightening requirements of their fresh milk contract was what encouraged Martin to use the Safe Ag Systems software to get their workplace up to scratch.
“Our industry is facing increasing farm safety requirements as the companies who buy our milk place increasing importance on farm safety,” he said.
“For us, Safe Ag Systems was the easiest way to make sure we met all of their requirements on farm.”
Martin’s dairy operation In Tynrendarra in south west Victoria milks 1400 cows and employs 10 staff all year round.
Martin said with staff involved in manual handling, chemical use, tractors and driving all-terrain vehicles, maintaining a safe environment is important and staff had now undertaken their first aid training.
“Before using Safe Ag Systems we didn’t have anything official in place but being a boiler maker by trade and having worked in the mines I have experience in an industry that is very strict on safety,” he said.
“We have been able to bring all of the staff together and work through a general induction with Safe Ag Systems and the guys have been able to use the app on their phone when they’re working.”
